2.6 Chapter 2 Summary

Reliable automated data reduction has become a necessary facet of observational astrophysics due to the immense amount of data it is now possible to generate using modern telescopes. The high level of automation involved with a robotic telescope facility, which leads to a high observing efficiency, necessitates a commensurable level of automation in the reduction.

The theory presented has shown the necessary steps, and in the order they need to be taken, to allow fabrication of an automated reduction system. It is necessary to ask that such a high demand for automated reduction exists - is there already a system available? The next chapter will explore this question and also investigate current research in this field.
